We started to write this newsletter a couple of days ago and the first line was about the sunny weather. Most of you would know that since that lovely sunny day, we have had a devastating hail and windstorm rip through parts of SA, including the Barossa. Things aren’t looking so great out in our vineyard now; it's scary what damage Mother Nature can do in about ten minutes. Fingers crossed the bunches that are bravely holding on will be okay.
To be sure not to miss any of our news, please join our new Facebook Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/paisleywinesbarossa/. This is a private group for wine lovers and friends who want to know what’s happening at Paisley Wines.

New Releases & New Packaging
We have been enjoying a glass or two of the 2021 Cashmere Riesling for a little while but now the 2021 Linen Fiano has also been released, the big decision is which one to open!
The ‘21 Cashmere Riesling has a light minerality about it with delicious citrus notes and refreshing acidity. The ‘21 Linen Fiano offers a richer palate with hints of stone fruits and creaminess.
You also get to see our new packaging revealed on the 2021 Linen Fiano, this bright and textural packaging will appear on all our new Fabric series wines when the new vintages are bottled. We are really excited about the new look. A heads up notice to keep your eyes open for our new Celtic and new Mixed by DJ Deadly packaging coming with the next bottle runs too. We have been very busy working with our designer to bring our new packaging ideas to life!
Perfectly timed for summer and the backyard BBQ, the 2019 Turntable GMS is a bit of a different blend than we have produced over the last few years. This has 65% Grenache, 25% Mataro and 10% Shiraz. Anyone who has heard us talk about the GMS will know for Paisley, it’s all about the big “G” (aka Grenache) as the hero, with the Mataro and Shiraz playing second fiddle. The Grenache offers spicy and herbal notes, the Mataro offers earthy tones and the Shiraz gives a sweet finish.
If you prefer a richer style red, then look no further than the 2019 Boombox Shiraz. This wine from a drought affected vintage, is rich and robust, just as you would expect from the Barossa. It is labelled Barossa because it has a blend of fruit from our Road Block Vineyard in Angaston which is in Eden Valley as well as from a grower in Ebenezer in Barossa Valley. It’s the first wine we have made predominately from our own Estate Vineyard. We’re very happy with it.
Awesome New Photos!
We had a lot of fun a few weeks ago when we did a photoshoot with a bunch of our friends tasting our wines, enjoying a platter, walking the vineyard and enjoying the view from our Sunset block. These images are for use in our new brochure and banners which you will see at our upcoming events.
Our website has been refreshed with these new pics, so if you haven’t had a look around for a while, you should check it out. Here are a few of the photos showing us enjoying the walk as well as the kids enjoying feeding the sheep.
Latest Wine Reviews
92 points - Campbell Mattinson, 2021 Cashmere Riesling
Eden Valley Riesling from a reliably-good producer. Right in the zone. Lemon and lime with talc and chalk inflections. To be more precise: lemon juice and lime rind. Both dry and satisfying through the finish. Flashes of dry spice too, something like nutmeg. Very good.

91 points - Campbell Mattinson, 2019 Turntable GMS
Given that Deadly Derek, maker of this wine, is known for his work at the turntable I keep wanting to say what a good groove it cuts, because it does. There are leather and iodine notes here, in among the mainstay of redcurrant and asphalt, which give this wine a weight, a presence. It’s easy to sink in and feel satisfied here. There are whispers of both mint and coconut here too, but they are whispers at most. It’s a well made wine, and well priced too.

91 points, QWine Reviews, 2019 Boombox Shiraz
As a wine writer, I have received various things over the years to enhance my tasting experience. Socks and t-shirts always help - it beats tasting in the nude. An Iron Maiden coffee mug was once supplied by a winemaker to taste his Shiraz. That was memorable! But Paisley Wines take things to a new level recommending this playlist curated by the winemaker - none other than DJ Deadly. Oh, and the wine is damn tasty too.
With soft and round edges, the mood is set with song #6, 'Throw your arm around me' by Hunters and Collectors. Plentiful dark fruits fill the mouth. There is a boldness yet it shows a playful side. Mulberries and shades of blueberries roll through, and as Prince suggests in the following song, it just wants your extra time and your kiss. Woodsy and baking spices ramp up the tempo on close. Long, spicy and very moreish, this is a clever and most enjoyable Shiraz for the money. Drink to five years.

Tastings, Vineyard and Barrel Shed Tours
& Family Fun Experiences at Paisley
We love to have a chat about all things Paisley and now offer Tastings in our Kitchen or on the Back Patio of our home in Angaston. Come and check out the gorgeous views across our vineyard while you enjoy a tasting of our wines.
If you want to learn more about what really goes into making each bottle of wine, then joining us for one of our Vineyard Experiences might be for you. We offer a couple of different experiences including the Paisley Unveiled Experience which takes you through our vineyard, up to the Sunset Block Lookout to enjoy the wine made from our Estate before heading back to the house for a tasting and platter.
If you want to delve even deeper, then the Paisley Revealed Experience takes you for a journey through the Estate Vineyard before visiting in the Barrel Shed to give Derek a hand, a Wine Blending Experience to make the best GSM blend before a tasting of the full range of deliciously fashionable Barossa wines over a two-course lunch with us.
If you, like Derek and I, have children (we have one, Miss 11), then you might know what it’s like to go from that carefree time when you turned up at a winery, took your time tasting through before heading off for a long lunch…
Tastings with Kids can be challenging – so we have introduced the Paisley Footprints Experience. Not only do your children get to cuddle the chooks and help collect the eggs, we take a leisurely walk through the vineyard, the kids with scavenger hunt questions in hand, taste our Estate Single Vineyard Release Shiraz (and fruitboxes) on the Sunset Block, feed and pat the sheep before coming back for a spot of colouring in and wine tasting for the adults. Paisley Footprints Experience is for 2 adults and 3 children (min age 3 years).
Derek’s Musing from the Vineyard & Winery
It’s that time of year again when we budburst starts and the vines spring into life, getting us excited for another cracking vintage. As I write this however, we have been hit by a massive hailstorm that has broken many of the shoot tips and ripped off some bunches. I am not sure whether the bunches on the vines will survive or not, we are keeping our fingers crossed.
Things are getting busy in the vineyard, good winter rains have meant we have only recently had to consider watering the vines. I have been out tying up loose shoots on our young vines to help train them up to the wire.
In the winery it’s the usual maintenance of barrel topping. Additionally, we have been doing a bit of bottling with new vintages of the Boombox Shiraz and Turntable GSM which I am exceptionally happy with. The GSM is medium bodied with good fruit sweetness and spice, The Shiraz is big, rich and full flavoured. A wine for lovers of full flavoured reds. Since the last newsletter we have also got both our 2021 whites into bottle with a lovely citrusy Riesling and a textural Fiano. With more up and coming bottlings of the 2019 Fabric reds, there's no time to rest. Before long it will be Vintage 2022!
