The Paisley Wine Range

The Paisley Wine range has four different tiers. Each range has been created to reflect the couple’s passion for art, books, music and of course food and wine!

The Mixed by DJ Deadly range features colourful record shaped front and back labels. Derek, aka DJ Deadly, was called Deadly Derek back at school by one of his teachers and he incorporated this into his DJ name back in 90’s when he spent a lot of time dancing at raves. He loved the music so much he tried his hand at the decks and recorded his best mixes to hand out to friends.

The colourful Paisley Fabric labels each feature a contemporary and brightly decorated paisley design and complete the story of Paisley Wines. Kirsten’s great-great grandfather and grandmother emigrated to Adelaide from Paisley in Scotland in 1839 – five months in a boat to the other side of the world. The town of Paisley copied the iconic boteh (palm leaf) design from India, mass producing textiles in the 1830’s and the Fabric range gives homage to this connection. Each wine is named after a fabric type, the range includes the Silk Shiraz, Velvet Grenache and Cashmere Riesling.

The Celtic Mythology range started because Kirsten is a passionate reader and loves the fantasy genre. With a mixture of Scottish, Irish and Cornish ancestry, the couple decided to create a range featuring wine related characters from Celtic history. They discovered the stories of the goddess Maeve and the Irish creature called the Clurichaun. Derek then got in contact his friend Paul Tobin, with whom he travelled around Europe in a van back in 1995. Paul is a gifted artist and he lent his pen to create the fabulous characters for this range.

The Texture Single Vineyard range started because Derek was so pleased with the Angaston Estate grown fruit in 2019, he thought he should keep a barrel aside for a special project. He isolated two other batches to make up the range. The three wines are from the Paisley Estate vineyard in Angaston from Eden Valley, the Ebenezer from the Northern end and the Lyndoch from the Southern end of the Barossa Valley. Each comprises of one French oak barrel (300L) of premium Shiraz aged for 18 months. This wine was then bottled and aged in the Paisley cellar before release.

Our Mixed by DJ Deadly range comprises of 5 wines, each named for either a musical instrument or sound device.

The Amplifier Chardonnay comes from the Padthaway region in the South East. The wine is aged in quality French oak for a couple of months before bottling.  The Keyboard Rose is produced from Mataro grapes sourced from the Paisley estate vineyard. The wine is bone dry for a refreshingly crisp finish.

The three reds are made in an easy and early drinking style. The Six Strings Tempranillo (named for the Spanish guitar) is a popular Spanish varietal which is a bit spicy with a sweet mid palate. The Turntable GSM is “big G”, Grenache dominate so that the Shiraz can’t dominate. The wine is spicy, with sweet mouth filling fruit and an earthy finish. The Boombox Shiraz from the Paisley Estate Vineyard is rich with mouthfilling tannins.

The second tier in the Paisley wine range pays homage to Kirsten’s ancestors who emigrated from Scotland to Adelaide in the first years of settlement. The Fabric range celebrates the textile town of Paisley, near Glasgow.

The two whites, the Cashmere Riesling and Linen Fiano both have fruit from Eden Valley, the Riesling from a grower and the Fiano fruit from the Paisley estate vineyard. The Fiano also has some fruit from a grower as the estate vineyard is only 1.5 acres. Both wines are fresh with balanced acidity and lots of flavour.

The five reds in this range include the Velvet Grenache, Denim Mataro, Tartan Monty, Silk Shiraz and Corduroy Cabernet Sauvignon. These wines are sourced from fruit either on the Barossa Valley floor or from Eden Valley. While Derek makes the wines approachable for immediate consumption, they will continue to cellar for between four to ten years.

The Celtic range consists of premium red wines from the Barossa Valley. Fruit was sourced from growers for both the Maeve Shiraz and the Clurichaun Mataro

Maeve is a Celtic Goddess, the name Maeve means “she who intoxicates”. Maeve was the goddess of sovereignty and was renowned for sharing a drink with a newly anointed king in a secret ceremony to confirm the king’s reign. The delicious Maeve Shiraz offers long term cellaring, but as Paisley has already aged the wine for six years, it can be drunk now or left for longer.

The Clurichaun (pronounced Cla-ri-corn) is a bad-tempered cousin to the Leprechaun. This creature was known for living in a wine cellar or pub and would look after the wine if you treated him well. If you made the mistake of annoying the little creature however, he would drink you out of house and home! The Clurichaun Mataro fruit was sourced from the Barossa Valley and can be cellared for up to ten years.

At the very top of the Paisley wine range and currently featuring the 2019 Vintage Releases is the Texture Single Vineyard range of Shiraz. Each wine is produced from a different part of the Barossa, creating distinctly different wines.

The Ebenezer Shiraz is from a vineyard in the northern end of the Barossa Valley floor at 290m above sea level. The soil is a rich red/brown with some ironstone and river pebbles. The wine is rich, supple and soft in the mouth. Will cellar for around 15 years.

The Angaston Shiraz is from the Paisley estate vineyard in Eden Valley at 480m above sea level. With cooler days and nights, this Shiraz was picked a couple of weeks later than the other two wines. It is rich, with firm tannins and minerality from the rocky soil in the vineyard. Will cellar for up to 20-25 years.

The Lyndoch Shiraz from the southern part of the Barossa Valley is the richest of the three wines. From 250m above sea level, this fruit ripens before the other blocks and has intense flavours, with a rich and bold finish. The wine will cellar for past 30 years with careful cellaring.
